Young Israeli parents tragically lost their lives as part of the terrorist attack carried out by Hamas in their home in Israel, but their quick thinking and bravery managed to spare their 10-month-old twins from the same fate.
Itay and Hadar Berdichevsky, who were both 30, heard the Hamas terrorists attempting to break into their house and immediately sprang into action to protect their children.
Knowing the danger they faced, Itay and Hadar swiftly placed their babies into a hidden shelter just moments before the Hamas terrorists stormed in.
Unfortunately, though the couple “bravely fought” against the attackers, they were fatally shot during the assault on Israel on Saturday.
Babies survive Israel attack
Remarkably, after more than 12 hours of isolation, Israeli soldiers were able to locate and rescue the stranded infants.
Israeli ambassador to Colombia, Gali Dagan, described Itay and Hadar as “heroes,” who in their last act on Earth did “everything they could to save their children.”
“They hid their 10-month-old twin children in the shelter while terrorists infiltrated their home,” Dagan said in a post on X, formerly Twitter. “Itay and Hadar were brutally murdered after bravely fighting the terrorists.”
“The babies were left alone for more than 12 hours until they were rescued. Imagine the horror. Two terrified parents doing everything they can to save their children, who are now orphaned. Blessed be the memory of these heroes,” he added.
Itay and Hadar’s sacrifice adds to the devastating toll of more than 900 Israelis who have fallen victim to the Hamas-led assault on Israel.
Woman stalls terrorists during Israel attack
During the same attack a brave Israeli woman, Rahel Edri, managed to outwit Hamas terrorists and save her life by engaging them in conversation and serving drinks for an astounding 20 hours.
The terrifying ordeal began when Edri and her husband sought refuge in a bomb shelter near their Ofakim residence, after a rocket siren pierced the air.
According to Edri’s account, five men claiming to be the police, mostly speaking Arabic, forcefully entered their home, breaking windows and seizing their phones.
The attackers interrogated the couple, while also rummaging through their closets, then holding them at gunpoint. At one point, they even held a grenade over her head.
Demonstrating incredible composure under immense pressure, Edri calmly engaged with the captors, even offering them drinks, including Coke Zero and water.
During their interaction, Edri cunningly informed one of the assailants that she needed to inject insulin, diverting the terrorists’ attention away from the fact that her children were police officers.
Desperate to buy time for rescue forces to arrive, she even made lighthearted jokes, suggesting a mutual language exchange of Hebrew and Arabic.
The attackers patronizingly considered themselves heroes, proudly revealing that their own children supported their reprehensible actions.
With their captives held hostage, they diligently monitored the windows, wary of any rescue attempts.
Edri’s incredible resilience paid off. In the dead of night, she overheard the arrival of special forces, causing a mix of relief and apprehension about the likely gunfight.
Fortunately, instead of engaging in a direct confrontation, the terrorists scattered, hiding in separate locations until they were eventually neutralized.
Reflecting on her harrowing experience, Edri expressed her gratitude to the police for their swift response and hailed them as true heroes.
